Hello every Currently me and my brother share our internet connection via a wireless router (its a Netgear with no bandwidth managment tools). We are only on a 2 meg line but of course can upgrade to a 20 meg line. The problem is that my brother complains that he cant surf the internet when im downloading stuff. I like to use a lot of P2P and torrent sites and so need something that can give priority to web surfing. I know that any amount of uploading on the cable connection kills the download. Is there any good routers out there that can manage the bandwidth so my bother wont even realise im downloading stuff? If we receive a 20 meg line it seems crazy we can't take 10 megs each somehow. The only alternative is to receive Virgin Media to install another connection which seems a bit anoying. (ADSL here aint worth considering). Any idea network people? :O) just had another look on google looks like i need a router with QoS.
Check frequently asked questions about Network management
I am head of security of a tiny network there are 3 differnt routers every networked together. I can acess the router and look mac adresses and IP's and the computer name, but I need to be able to look what each computer is doing. I use to be good with network security, but its been a few years now. Any one know of anything good? OK I can't use anything that requires an istaltion on the client computer it is an open network people arrive and go as they please, It is not a closed enviroment like a classroom It is a LEGAL private network and there are sighns saying every use is subject to monitoring. We have sensitive information on our servers we have a right to know what each person using the network is doing. the other guy helping me uses sniffing software (cain I think) we can use any means we want to monitor users on the network. So does anyone know of any thing?
